Hello there, this is Ujjwal and today I am sharing some fun techniques to do with stencils. Mudra has some lovely stencil designs and I will be using 4 of them today to share different card ideas.
1. Watercolor
This one is, of course, the easiest and one that I love because it involves coloring. It works great with any stencil that has the right amount of open areas that are not too small to watercolor. I especially love using watercolors with floral stencils.
For this card, I used the "Floral Abstract" Stencil and distress inks(Picked Raspberry, Crushed Olive, Evergreen Bough, Iced Spruce) as watercolors. The beautiful sentiment is from the "Universal Love" Stamp Set and I also used the clear sequins to add the finishing touch.
2. Inking and layering
This technique works best with geometric and/or symmetrical stencils. Basically, lay the stencil on the card panel, ink it and then move the stencil and add another layer of ink and this extra step makes some gorgeous patterns and is a great way to get more out of one stencil.
For this card, I used the "Retro Curves" stencils and distress inks(Picked Raspberry and Pumice Stone) to create the wonderful pattern. The sentiment was build using the "Brushed Alphas" Stamp Set and I also added some clear and silver sequins.
3. Inking and stamping
If the stencil has enough open space, you can also use stamps and stamp through it.
For this card, I first inked the background with Iced Spruce Distress ink. Then I lay the stencil down and inked it with Stormy Sky Distress ink. Then I used the "Old Script" Mini stamp and stamped through the stencil randomly. I used the "Wild Roses" stamp set to stamp, color and cut the flowers and leaves. I used the same distress inks colors to color them as the background. The sentiment is from the "Greetings" Stamp Set and is white heat embossed.
4. Color lifting with water
Since distress inks are water reactive, it is so magical to see what a little water can do. If water is adding to distress inks, it lifts up the color and that is the property I used to create this beautiful effect.
For this card, I first inked up the panel with different distress inks(Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Iced Spruce, Evergreen Bough). Then I took the "Mandala" Stencil and sprayed it with water and then lay it down carefully on the inked panel. I let it be there for a couple of minutes and also added a bit of inking through the stencil at this point using the Pumice Stone distress ink. Then I lifted the stencil and the water on the stencil had taken away the color and created this beautiful pattern. The sentiment is from the mini "Thank You" stamp set and I also added some beautiful gold sequins.
And that's all I have to share today. I hope you liked these techniques and will give them a try.
We also have a new challenge up for this month and the theme is "Chalkboard Technique". Play along to win some fabulous prizes.
Thank you for visiting today and have a great day!
