How to make a Chalkboard sign

Hi everyone,
Parul here from Parul Gupta Designs. Today I bring you a super classy chalkboard sign which can be gifted as a card or used as a home decor piece. Chalkboards are my favourite because they bring that wonderful feeling of our schools and childhood and at the same time they are evergreen. They go never out of fashion.
There are so many methods a chalkboard background can be created. Some people use white colour pencils, some use white gel pens, some use heat embossing, some use white pigment ink and some use combination of these. I have used white heat embossing method with white pigment ink. And result is amazing! It looks so real in person.
Let's have a look at what I created

I was inspired by following image from Pinterest to create this card.

I started with making the faux wooden frame. I took a card base and partially die cut its bottom to make the legs of the chalkboard. Any label die will serve the purpose. In fact you can do this manually as well.
I took four stripes of same card stock and embossed them with a woodgrain embossing folder.I also embossed the bottom half of the front of the card base. Because whole structure holding the black chalkboard should be wood.
I cut the edges of stripes diagonally so that they can make a frame. Also I distressed stripes and visible portion of card base with Walnut stain Distress Ink.
Next step was to take a 3x3 black card stock and heat emboss the sentiment in white.
Here is a tip: Since real chalkboards have lot of residual chalk stains; its not necessary to use antistatic powder before embossing. Some imperfections in embossing makes perfect chalkboards. :)
And the final touch was to take some white pigment ink ( I used Hero Arts unicorn White) in a dry baby wipe or cotton and smear over black surface.
I followed these steps and see how realistic chalkboard effect I got

I went one step further and made a garland of hearts to adorn this .And this is how it looked at the end

I enjoyed so much making this sign board and I hope you like it. Please let me know in comment section and don't forget to participate in current Challenge#9 Chalkboard Technique.
