Stencils Colouring 3 Ways

Hi! Nandini here with brand new inspiration for the current Mudra Craft Challenge #25. This month we are challenging you to add layers to your creations. Use your favourite Mudra products to create projects with more than one layer.

Normally layers are associated more with the shabby chic and vintage styles. But even CAS cards look great with the addition of a few layers. I also pulled out the gorgeous new stencils by Mudra and coloured them in three different ways.

Card 1:
One of the easiest ways of colouring stencils is with colour pencils.

  • Take a piece of light brown cardstock and fix the stencil to it with some washi tape. I like to fix the tape to the backside so that it doesn't block the pattern.
  • Use the regular colour pencils to colour through the stencil. Remember to keep a sharper handy as the pencils need frequent sharpening.
  • I used the Square Extrude stencil which was released recently. Colour through it once. Then simply flip the stencil over and colour again.
  • Cut the panel to size. With some planning, you can actually get multiple cards while layering. I die cut an offset rectangle and used both pieces to create two cards.
  • On card 1 I used the Thanks die and inlaid die cutting.
  • On card 2 I used the sentiment from the Wishing You stamp set.

Here is a closer look at the card 1.

And card 2.

Card 2:
The same technique of colouring gives a different effect when used with watercolour markers.

  • Take a piece of shimmer paper.
  • Fix the Floral Mosaic stencil and colour with two shades of brush pens.
  • Cut the panel to size and layer with coordinating colour paper.
  • The sentiment is from the Floral Banner stamp set.
  • Pop the centre panel with foam tape.

Here is a closer look at the card.

Card 3:
For the final card, I pulled out my alcohol markers to create a bold background.

  • Take a piece of ivory paper and fix to the Deco Pattern stencil.
  • Use the alcohol markers to colour through the stencil.
  • Die cut the panel to size and adhere to an ivory card base.
  • Die cut two ovals out of the same ivory paper and stamp the sentiment from the Floral Fantasy set on the smaller oval.
  • Pop up the smaller oval with foam tape.

Here is a closer look at the card.
