Mudra Craft Stamps: Celebrating the Festival of Lights

Hi! Happy Diwali to all. I hope you are enjoying yourselves with family and friends. And I hope too that you will take some time off from the celebrations to get crafty!

Our theme for October is

Sathya Kala Sankaran our super talented blog co-ordinator has put together a great palette of festive colors for you. Use few of the colors seen here harmoniously with a touch of Gold to make any project for this challenge.

I was so inspired by these beautiful colors and the fabulous September release that I couldn't stop making cards! I hope you find them inspiring too.

Card 1:

For my first card I used the beautiful Madhubani Borders stamp set. This is the first stamp set that I designed for Mudra and it is very close to my heart. It is based on the traditional motifs found in the Madhubani folk art which is practiced in Bihar and Nepal.

Take a piece of white card stock and stamp the Madhubani borders with Versamark. Heat emboss with gold embossing powder.
Separate the borders and then use distress inks directly on paper to add color.
Take a piece of scrap paper and adhere the borders with glue. Trim the panel to required size.
Trim a piece of black card stock and rub the Versamark ink pad along the edges. Dip in gold embossing powder and heat emboss.
Stamp the sentiment from the Deepavali stamp set with Versamark and heat emboss with gold embossing powder.
Mount the black panel as well as the borders panel on a black card base with foam tape.

Card 2:

I went for some stenciling for my second card.

Take a piece white card stock. Apply distress inks randomly to cover it completely.
Place the Mandala stencil over the inked paper and apply some dark distress ink over it.
Randomly run the Versamark ink pad along the sides of the trimmed panel. Dip in gold embossing powder and heat emboss.
Cut a strip of paper from the Navy Blue card stock which forms the base. Stamp the sentiment from the Diwali Mini Sentiment in Versamark and heat emboss with gold embossing powder.
Mount the panel with foam tape on the card base and then adhere the sentiment.

Card 3:

I made these two cards for a fashion designer friend who wanted to send out a few to her clients. I used the lovely golden yellow color of her visiting card for my card base. I kept them super simple since she wanted multiples.

Take a small piece of card stock and use any piercing die to make holes. Alternately you can take a grid paper and pierce with a needle. Take embroider floss and make a simple cross-stitch frame.
Stamp the small diya and the sentiment from the Diwali Mini Sentiment on small pieces of white card stock with black ink.
Trim the stamped pieces and mount on the card base with foam tape.
For the second card two circles, one black one white from card stock.
Stamp the sentiment from the Diwali Mini Sentiment on the white circle.
Add a touch of gold with a pen.
Adhere the black circle on the card base. Mount the white over it with foam tape.

Card 4:

The September release has a great stamp layering set for Diwali. It is a beautiful set and very easy to line up. I used it to make a set of cards for another friend. She is a caterer and wanted something that showcased the company colors. I went for a very elegant and simple look.

Cut a panel with a stitched rectangle die from some thick watercolor paper.
Stamp the layered diya from the Diwali Decors stamp set on the panel.
Add some tiny stars from the Let's Party stamp set.
Stamp the sentiment with some metallic ink. This one is from a very old Mudra set which is my absolute favorite!
Mount the panel on the card base with foam tape.

Card 5:

I made a more colorful version of a Diwali card with the Diwali Decor stamp set and papers from my scrap bin.

Take a white card base and adhere a strip of color paper on the inside.
Trim the upper flap with a curved die so that the colored strip is visible.
Stamp the sentiment from the Deepavali stamp set with Versamark and heat emboss with white embossing powder.
Stamp the Diwali Decor layering stamp with matching colors. Add some tiny stars from the Let's Party stamp set.
