Watercolor cards + Flower Vase DIY using stencils

Hello Everyone!!

Manu here from A Handfull of Art. I hope you all are doing good and must have been ecstatic to see the new release from Mudra. I totally loved the release this time and my fav being the new Lullaby series of stamps. Definitely a must try if you love cute critters and are into scrapbooking.

I'm sharing two water color cards along with a DIY flower vase I made using the newly released Mudra Stencils. These stencils are super easy to work with DIY elements and make them into something stunning.
Lets checkout the Cards first.

I selected the Fresh Cut rosese stamp that was released and tried a little no-line watercoloring.
No line watercolor is really therapeutic and gives you the freedom to work wonders with your stamp.

To make this card.

  • Take a A5 size watercolor cardstock panel and stamp your stamp using the worn lipstick distress ink. This is done keeping in mind that this card was a no-line watercolor card.
  • Now watercolor the image and once done as per your liking, splatter a little black color to make it look rustic.
  • Mount this panel to another A2 size cardstock and stamp the sentiment. Your card is ready.

Here's another card using the 'Hello Sunshine' stamp set.

Totally loved these cute critters and the process for making this card is very much the same as the previous one except that the image is stamped with Ranger Archival ink this time.

Here's another DIY project that can be made with the Mudra Stencils. They have some amazing floral designs and using a few colors and a gesso, you can create a stunning yet subtle flower vase for your interiors.

Lets checkout the pics

checkout the pic below for the complete view. You only need a few items to convert a mundane thing to a simple yet, gorgeous vase. I used a empty fruit jam bottle, you can use any.

This is also my entry for this  months challenge theme which is all about adding layers. Confused?? where are the layers??? well, adding layers of colors is the way I Interpreted it and this Vase has tonns of layers of different hues of the same color to give it a subtle look.

To make this DIY:

  • Clean your glass bottle and wipe it off with a cotton cloth. In my case, I picked up an empty kissan fruit jam bottle.
  • Using a sponge, dab gesso all over the bottle and let it dry. my bottle has 2 coats of gesso and when the 2nd coat dries off, dab acrylic/chalk color and set the bottle aside to dry.
  • Once dry, pick a stencil of your choice and adhere it using a tape to the bottle so that it doesnt moves while we do the stenciling. Stencil with a lighter base color and then apply coats of darker shades of your choice till you are happy with the results.
  • Tie a satin ribbon at the neck of the bottle and adorn it with your favorite flowers.
  • Your DIY Vase is ready !!!
Mudra Stencils makes for such sober and subtle designs and I'm sure going to dig and find out all my glass bottles now to do the transformation!!

I hope you liked my projects and would want to try a few out. You can link your entries here. Do keep checking the Mudra blog as we have tons of great inspiration lined up this month.
