Interesting Backgrounds with Layering

Hi! Nandini here with some more inspiration for the current Mudra Craft Challenge #25. This month we want you to create projects with more than one layer.

Card 1:

I used two of the mini stamps by Mudra for my first card. I love their mini stamps as they offer great images at very reasonable prices.

  • Take a piece of watercolour paper and stamp the images from the Hibiscus stamp set randomly with some sticky ink. Heat emboss with gold embossing powder.
  • Use distress inks to colour the images and dry completely.
  • Cut the panel to size and adhere to a card base.
  • I dug through my stash and found panels which matched the colours I had used for the hibiscus background.
  • For the sentiment panel, stamp the Blooms Within stamp with sticky ink and heat emboss with copper and gold embossing powders.
  • To finish, adhere the layers to the card base. Pop up the sentiment panel with foam tape.

Card 2:
A great idea for busting your stash is to create backgrounds with multiple papers.

  • Take a bunch of papers in yellow, orange, red and brown colours.
  • Cut them into strips of varying heights and adhere on a strip of scrap paper.
  • Trip the panel to size.
  • Stamp the sentiment from the Carnation set with sticky ink and heat emboss with silver embossing powder.
  • Stamp the floral bunch from the Magnolia stamp set with black ink. Using a stamp positioner is a good idea since you might have to stamp multiple times to get a crisp image.
  • Pop up the panel on foam tape and adhere to a dark brown card base, adding a strip of silver glitter paper on one side.

Card 3:
For the final card, I used my favourite Joseph's Coat technique.

  • Take a piece of plain paper and apply different colours of distress oxide inks.
  • Fix the Leafy Pattern stencil to the panel and apply sticky ink through the stencil. Heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
  • Apply any dark distress oxide inks over the panel. The clear embossing will act as  resist.
  • Buff the the panel with a tissue to remove any ink from the clear embossing.
  • Trim the panel to size. Also trim a slightly larger panel put of ivory card stock as a mat.
  • Die cut a heart shape out of the stenciled panel. This can be used for another card.
  • Adhere the ivory mat to a lilac card base. Pop up the stenciled panel on some foam tape and adhere it to the base.
  • Diecut the Thanks cut3 die out of lilac glitter paper and 6-7 white papers. Stack the diecutsd together to create the sentiment. Cut off the ends of the white die cuts so that they fit in the opening and can be poped up.
