Guest Designer - Purwa Singhania

Hi Crafters,

Today we have Guest Designer at our blog. Purwa Singhania, has come up with two projects for us. So without further delay, Over to her

"HOLA Makers!!!

I am Purwa Singhania, cofounder of the brand called Colorbarn, a DIY Blog and a Makers community ‘Sparking creativity One DIY project at a time.’ I am a design graduate from NIFT Bengaluru & handling freelance graphic design projects by the day and crafting by the night. I have been crafting for as long as I can remember but starting sharing my craft projects on social media platforms only form a year and a half. My mission in life is to spread the joy of MAKING with hands to all the people out there!
Today I am really very excited to showcase 2 of my projects as this is my first post as a guest designer on Mudra Craft Stamp’s Blog! Which means lots of stamping, glittery sequins and elegant paper crafting with my touch of SURPRISE! OK so without holding on the further excitement lets go for the Project reveal.

Project 1: DIY Money Envelope.

We Indians have this custom of giving Money Envelopes on most of the Occasions be it marriage or a birthday party! So I thought why not create a money Envelope with a modern twist.

-        I cut out an envelope template from my Silhouette Portrait machine.

-        For the Shaker frame as well, I created a scalloped edge frame template and cut using my Silhouette machine.

-        I used Mudra sequins to create the shaker frame.

-        For the watercolored stamp image I stamped one of Mudra Craft stamps using very pale distress oxide ink (so it was not very visible) and colored using my Prima Watercolors.
-        Once I created My embellishment elements I then started assembling and layering them up. First I stuck the shaker frame , Secondly I used one of Mudra chipzeb collection Mason jay shaped chipboard and on top of that I pasted my watercolored stamp image using double sided tape.
-        Lastly I added a small sentiment strip, over which I had written the word ‘WITH’ to complete ‘with love(on chipzeb)’ sentiment.

I really loved the way it turned out! We can even pop in a GIFT card if money is too old fashioned! Please look at the video below to understand the whole process visually.

PROJECT 2: DIY Explosion Box – Gift Box

We all want to add special and personal touch to even store-bought gifts when we are giving it to someone very dear to us! And what better way to convey special feeling than a handmade card? But WAIT how can we combine the two (GIFT & A handmade Card) to make it DOUBLE SPECIAL! I will just show you how…
This project feature an explosion box with a wrapped gift inside! Isnt that super Duper special? So lets get to make it!
-        Firstly I have cut out all the layers of explosion boxes using my DIY Explosion box Kit stencils.

-        After cutting I assembled all the pieces like below. If you want to know more about this stencil & assembly please visit my blog.

-        Once I prepared the base, I stamped (with black ink ) some flowers and leaves from Mudra stamp set on watercolor paper and colored them with watercolors. I fussy cut them later on to add to my base.

-        To give a look of Gift wrap I stamped flowers and leaves images (red and green brush pens) to the inside layer on both sides

-        Now to add shaker windows One on the top of lid and 2 with scalloped edges I cut my frames using my Silhouette cutting machine.
-        I prepared all the shaker windows with mudra sequins and a sentiment stamped on the inside.
-        After preparing all the embellishments I made two slant pockets on 2 bigger flaps of the base. To them I added square blank tags to write a special message or paste a picture using my inset square stencil part of my DIY explosion box kit. I attached ribbon to both of these tags.
-        Lastly I closed all the flaps of the inside layer and added a ribbon bow to secure it in place and attached to the base.
-        After attaching all the embellishments and stamped images the whole box looked Beautiful as shown in the pictures below.

You can put any small gift inside the gift wrap like earrings, baked cookies or even make up product. Not only does this explosion gift box make store bought gifts look beautiful but also adds a personal touch with the message/photo cards.

I hope that you liked my projects but I would really love to know your feedback. 1. Fantastic explosion box. The shaker element adds even more charm to the already gorgeous box. Love this color combination. The use of stamps to create pattern paper like look is clever. The person receiving this will really feel special.
