Simply Chalked Up!

Hi Friends,

Its Sathya here, from Paperie Expressions .

What's special on your end...Well here...May month always makes me more merrier, as i wait impatiently to take up India trip in coming June :)

And...Hope you are tremendously enjoying Awesome inspirations by my fellow Design Team members...Such a back to back Fabulous ones with Chalkboard Technique theme.

Now you must have extensive ideas/ inspirations to create chalkboard effects and faux chalk effects using Embossing pen, Embossing powders, White gel pen, White pigment ink, Chalk inks and of course Chalk and Chalk dust!

My inspirations are also a bit of that Trendy technique. Its my first ever attempt at it, as i have only attempted for a sentiment panel 2 yr before with this technique. Its always been on my wish list and SO i felt to include as one of the Challenge theme, when i was asked to ;)
Hope you would enjoy as much as i did :)

I love colors absolutely and this attempt at just plain black and white made me come out of my comfort zone truly and enjoy the process!!

 Let's get started!!

Chalked Bookmarks , Chalked Notecards, Chalked Gift Tags :

Chalked Bookmarks:

  • Took black cs in 2.25"x6" and white heat embossed sentiments from Bookmarks stampset and Hot air ballon from Beachfun Stampset.
  • Then using tissue, buffed white pigment ink over the embossed and surrounding areas to give a chalkboard effect.
  • Bordered the panel with white colored pencil.
  • Went ahead and matted this over a white cs.
  • Then laminated this bookmark and added a black satin ribbon as final touch.
Chalked Notecards:

  • These are 3.5x3.75" notecards which i attempted to do Table art, by showcasing these on mini easels for a daily Inspirational kick at workspace :)
  • I took sentiments from Farewell, Dare to fly stampsets and white heat embossed it along with feathers from Dreamcatcher and chevron washi from Washis stampset.
  • Buffed white pigment ink over the embossed areas.
  • Highlighted panel by white colored pencil scorings.
  • Matted with White cardstock.
  • Laminated the panels to make sturdy.
Chalked Gift Tags:

  • Was hoarding these thick colored cardboard hearts for a long time now.
  • Went ahead and black gessoed it heavily.
  • White heat embossed the sentiments from Mixed Greetings stampset.
  • To add little extra detailing, stamped flourishes from Vintagey Florishes stampset around the sentiments.
  • Added natural linen ribbon and a teeny tiny ivory Raffia bow as final touch.
Chalked Tag:

  • Diecut a standard Tag from Teal colored designer paper.
  • Top it a black cs panel.
  • This time, stamped butterfly from Beautiful butterflies stampset and sentiment from Hummingbird stampset using Ranger Glacier white - pigment ink.
  • Using chalk inks give a real chalkboard effect unlike bright white heat embossed results. Both has its own loveliness. And its purely a personal preference!
  • I stamped same butterfly in a scratch black cs, fussy cut and added topping the stamped butterfly on the panel.
  • Done scorings using the white colored pencil.
  • Added Teal baker's twine are added as finishing touch.
Chalked cards :

To bring little color to the post, made two cards using colored designer papers.

  • Took a standard A2 sized white card base.
  • Matted with a Fuchsia pink designer paper (it appears more of red here in pic yet!)
  • Added strips of washi tapes to the card front.
  • To a black card panel, stamped fuchsia from Humming bird set using Ranger glacier white pigment ink to get a dull white chalky effect.
  • Stamped sentiment from Wild rose set using same pigment ink.
  • Rolled the edges of panel for added interest.
  • Mounted this over the card front using foam adhesives.
  • That finishes off this card.

  • Felt a much needed brightness to my blogpost and so this Yellow addition!! :D
  •  Onto a standard A2 sized white card base, added a black cs and a yellow designer paper over it with a  vintage flourish trim running across the panel.
  • Took a standard Tag diecut in black cs.
  • Stamped sentiment and a flower from Wildrose stampset.
  • Colored just the centre of the flower in yellow to sync all together.
  • Scribbled chalk over the embossed areas and at few places applied chalk powders and buffed a little to give a chalk board effect.
  • Added a yellow ribbon and teeny tiny yellow stain bow to the tag and added this to the card base.
Glimpse of all just for you :)

I hope you have been inspired enough to give this Chalkboard technique a try, which is our current monthly challenge.
