Charming Ria & Colorful Washi ♥

Good morning friends!!
It's PonMalar here today, sharing a Mixed media canvas & two cards I made using the May release of Mudra stamps. Do check out this months' lovely Mudra collection at the following outlets.
Let's take a look at the mixed media canvas first.

Charming Ria

As soon as I saw this stamp designed by my dearie, Rhiz,, I wanted to do a mixed media canvas using the stamp.

  • I took a bunch of pattern papers in purple & pink. I stamped & heat embossed Ria in each of those pattern papers since I wanted to try paper-piecing.
  • Then fussy cut the dress, hair, face, hands & shoes from suitable papers.
  • Sponged the edges with Vintage photo distress ink & put them all together using some strong liquid adhesive.
  • Prepped my 6"x4" canvas with a layer of gesso & used pink, blue and purple watercolors to give a thorough coat. I didn't take any care to blend it perfectly as I wanted a distressed look to it.
  • Then sprayed some water mixed with golden Perfect pearls over the colored canvas to give it an added shimmer.
  • Placed Ria over the canvas & lightly traced it's outline with black & brown watercolor pencil. Then added water to blend it towards the edges of the canvas. This is to give a shadow to Ria in the finished project.
  • Pasted Ria to the canvas & used texture paste with TCW stencils to add some dimension.
  • Colored the stenciled texture paste using watercolors & added some texture paste at the bottom to give a surface for Ria to stand.
  • Heat embossed some glitter powder over the dress & added the hand written quote using foam tape. Finally drew a squiggly border using Uniball Posca marker & added few dots around using the same.

  • That finishes my simple mixed media canvas.

Washi Flowers
I was playing with my washi stamps & I thought, why not use my punches to get creative with these washi images.

  • I stamped two of those washi stamps with red & green pigment ink.
  • I punched a bunch of flowers & leaves from those images.

Stamping tip: When you want to adhere a lot of pieces randomly to your card, make sure to arrange them & take a photograph. It will be of huge help when you paste the pieces later.

  • Took a white card stock & heat embossed the entire front using Frosted crystal embossing powder. Then sprinkled a lot of dots using diluted red acrylic paint.
  • Applied diluted gesso over it to tone it down a bit; the effect you get is just stunning.
  • Gave a slight curve to the petals to give a 3D look & pasted the flowers and leaves along a tree image I drew with Posca marker.
  • Added pearls to the center of flowers & heat embossed the sentiment in black.
  • Sponged red pigment ink around the edges & a black border to finish the card.

Washi Rainbow

  • I took a white card stock, cut it diagonally using scissors to get 3 strips.
  • Took another card stock of same size & placed the 3 strips on it & marked their positions.
  • Then using the washi stamps with the colors of a rainbow, stamped repeatedly to fill the exposed areas.

  • Once done, mount the three strips of white card stock over it using foam tapes.
  • Heat embossed the sentiment in white & added the banner to finish my card.
